We celebrate the Life & Legacy of one of Huber Orchard & Winery’s iconic founders, Gerald Huber. Gerald, 5th Generation & Co-Owner of Huber’s Orchard & Winery, passed away quietly on Friday, September 16, 2016 with his family by his side. Gerald and his brother, Carl Huber, worked side by side from a very early age with their parents, Carl & Marcella (Stumler) Huber, in the fields of their farm located in Starlight, Indiana. Gerald & his wife of 55 years, Mary Jeanne (Schmitt) Huber, along with his brother Carl and his wife Linda (Zurschmeide) Huber, worked diligently for over 30 years, growing what has become one of Indiana’s most historic family businesses. This business, now in its seventh generation, still holds true to the principles held so dearly to Gerald’s heart – “farming first and the rest will follow.” Building on the bedrock that Gerald and his brother, Carl, put in place, the Huber family has been instrumental in not only growing the family business, but also working with other industry icons, Indiana legislatures, and community leaders to support and put in place the laws that made the Indiana agriculture climate friendly for those farmers to start wineries in the late 1970s. We both celebrate the fact that Gerald lived to see the impact of what he and his brother put in motion, and are saddened that, while his presence will continue to be felt, he will no longer be with us to see what future generations will accomplish.

The family appreciates your thoughts & prayers as we mourn the loss of Gerald.
